Treasure Beach is the canal neighborhood on the river side of A1A in the Crescent Beach area, platted in 1974 with a maze of saltwater canals that run out to the Intracoastal. Almost every house sits on a canal. The original homes are 1970s and 1980s single-story block on ground-level slabs under shingle, and the newer ones from the 1990s to the 2010s are raised, often under metal. It is unincorporated St. Johns County.
The canals are the point of the neighborhood and the problem in a storm. Ian's rain in September 2022, Nicole's tide that November, and Helene in September 2024 each put water in Treasure Beach streets, and a house that took water at the floor often took wind at the roof the same night. Salt rides in on the humidity from the river and from the ocean a few hundred yards east.
