Elkton is the farm community at State Road 207 and County Road 305 in southwest St. Johns County, on the road between St. Augustine and Hastings. The land was cleared to grow food for Henry Flagler's hotels, and by the 1920s Elkton was the heart of the Irish potato district with 5,000 acres in the crop. The housing is what a working farm district builds: frame farmhouses from the early 1900s under metal, 1950s and 1970s block homes along the highway and the county roads, manufactured homes on acreage, and metal barns and equipment sheds everywhere.
